I saw this sweater coat and fell in LOVE! It is totally mid-century mod fashion at its best... and it makes a great statement piece for today's wardrobe. It's hard to find these things in the thrift shop, so just make one... you get the style you want, and you get to pick the color and size.

This pattern is originally from Spinnerin, Volume 167, published in 1964. This is no longer in circulation, so in order to make it available for more vintage loving knitters, I am transcribing the instructions exactly as written in the original pattern book and offering them here.

Directions are for VINTAGE Women's size Medium only. To increase or decrease size, the pattern says to use larger or smaller needles. Finished measurements as written are:

Width across back at lower edge - 25
Width across back at underarms - 23
Width across each front at lower edge - 15
Width across each front at underarm - 14
Length from lower edge to underarms - 28
Length from lower edge to back of neck - 40
Length from lower edge to front neck - 38"

Original yarn used was:
Spinnerin Alpine, 50 gram balls - 21 balls Color A, 18 balls Color B
Or
Spinnerin Wintuk, 2 oz pull skeins - 18 balls Color A, 15 balls Color B
Or
Spinnerin Frostlon Petite, 1 oz balls - 17 balls Color A, 16 balls Color B
Or
Spinnerin Marvel Twist OR Nylaine Germantown Knitting Worsted, 4 oz skeins - 10 skeins Color A, 9 skeins Color B
You can google vintage yarn and get all the specifications you need to shop around for modern equivalents.

Yarn is held doubled throughout, this gives the plaid checkerboard pattern.

Gauge: 3 sts x 4 rows = 1” (with double yarn)

Needles: Size 10 1/2 knitting needles - both regular and 29" circular are specified in pattern
Crochet Hook - size G

3 1/2 yards 45" lining material
