Crocheted Zigzag / Chevron Pillows (Free Pattern)

These crocheted pillows with a zigzag or chevron design harken back to the 1970s, but with the right colors have a timeless appeal.

Finished Dimensions: Approx 14" (35.5 cm) square

Yarn: Lily Sugar ’n Cream, a 100% cotton worsted weight yarn with solid colors packaged in 2.5 oz/ 70 g balls containing 120 yds/109 m and ombres packaged in 2 oz/56 g balls containing 95 yds/ 86 m:** 3 balls for one pillow

Hook: 5 mm/U.S. H-8

Other Materials: 14" (35.5 cm) square pillow form, yarn needle

Gauge: 13 sts and 7 rows = 4" (10 cm) in dc

Step 1

Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 9 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in each of next 11 ch, sk next 2 ch, dc in each of next 11 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in each of next 11 ch. Turn.

Step 2

Row 2: Sl st in 2nd dc, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each of next 10 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 11 dc, sk next 2 dc, dc in each of next 11 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 11 dc, sk last turning ch. Turn.

Step 3

Row 3: Sl st in 2nd dc, ch 3 (counts as dc), BPdc around post of each of next 10 dc, *3 dc in next dc, BPdc around post of each of next 11 dc, sk next 2 dc, BPdc around post of each of next 11 dc, rep from * to last 12 sts, 3 dc in next dc, BPdc around post of each of next 11 dc, sk last turning ch. Turn.

Row 4: Rep Row 2.

Step 4

Rep Rows 3 and 4 for pattern until work from beg measures 28" (71 cm) along side edge, ending on a Row 4. Do not fasten off.

Step 5

Side Edging Ch 1. Work 1 row sc evenly down left side edge to foundation ch. Fasten off. With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in opposite corner of foundation ch. Work 1 row sc evenly up right side edge. Fasten off.

Step 6

FINISHING With WS facing each other, fold piece in half and sew 2 sides tog for Front and Back, matching points of Front with valleys of Back. Fold RS out and insert pillow form. Sew opening closed.
