Step 1
CUSTOMIZATION TIP
Create a metallic effect by using silver duct tape, adding pieces in the same manner as the washi tape. Or cut shapes and accents from duct tape to add a custom finish to your bangle.
Step 2
Clean and dry the old bangle. Plan your design using a collection of washi tapes in complementary designs.
Step 3
Cut the washi tape into small strips slightly larger than the width of the bangle. Working around the bangle, begin securing the tape onto its surface. Fold the cut edges neatly in toward the inside of the bangle, and make sure that each strip is fully adhered before adding the next.
Step 4
Continue covering the outer face of the bangle with tape strips, overlapping them slightly to make sure that none of the original bangle is visible.
Step 5
Cut two strips each measuring 3 cm longer than the inner measurement of the bangle. Carefully secure the first strip around the inside of the bracelet. Repeat to add the second strip. If the bangle is very wide, you might need to add a third strip so that all the cut edges of the folded strips are neatly covered and secured.
Step 6
QUICK TIP
Washi tape is quick and easy to apply. You can reposition the strips as you work if you are not happy with the placement. However, the more you remove and reapply the strips the less sticky they become, so make sure that they are fully stuck down before moving on to the next strip.
Step 7
QUICK TIP For longevity, seal the finished bangle with a coat of decoupage glue (Mod Podge) or matte or shiny clear varnish to protect the tape from dirt and damage.
