UPCYCLED DRESS TO APRON
Aprons are fun, functional and easy to sew. This free sewing pattern for an apron refashioned from a dress was adapted with permission from D.I.Y.: Kids
(Princeton Architectural Press). Authors Ellen and Julia Lupton suggest making an apron that matches your kitchen, or recycling an old party dress so that you can feel fancy when you're hard at work.

To make an upcycled dress apron, first lay the dress flat on the table.
Step 2
For a half-apron, cut dress at the wait, all the way around.
Step 3
For a full apron, cut off the sleeves and cut off the back. If the dress already has a sash, leave it intact.
Step 4
For a finished look, pin sides and then hem under using a hand-sewing needle or sewing machine.
Step 5
Sew on ties as needed. A half-apron needs a tie at top right and top left.
Step 6
A full apron needs ties at the top and at the sides.
