Textured Crochet Blanket

Worked in a shell pattern, this textured crochet blanket has a cabled look--a perfectly cozy and easy-to-make addition to any crib or bed. Not sure how to crochet in a shell stitch? Watch this instructional video. Skill Level: Easy

Finished Dimensions: Approx 36" (91.5 cm) square

Yarn: Patons Beehive Baby Fingerling Yarn, a 70% acrylic and 30% nylon fingering weight yarn packaged in 3.5 oz/100 g skeins containing 418 yds/382 m: 4 balls 35143 Bonnet Blue

Hook: 5.5 mm/US 1-9

Other Materials: Yarn needle, 4 stitch markers

Gauge: 4 shells and 12 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Shell Pattern

Step 1

Blanket Ch 206.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sk next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) twice, dc] in next ch--shell made, sk next 2 ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * to end of chain. Turn. (34 shells)

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch1), dc in first sc, *sc in center dc of next shell, shell in next sc, rep from * to last sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell, rep from * across, ending with sc in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. Turn.

Rep Rows 2 and 3 for Shell Pattern until work from beginning measures 34" (86.5 cm), ending with a WS row.

Do not break yarn.

Step 2

Border Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first dc, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next dc, sc in next sc, *(sc in next dc, sk next ch-1 sp) twice, sc in next dc, sc in next sc, rep from * to last dc and ch-4, sc in next dc, 3 sc in 3rd ch of ch-4, placing marker on center st (corner).

Continue down side of blanket, working 135 sc evenly to next corner, work 3 sc in next corner, placing marker on center st. Work 135 sc along bottom edge of blanket to next corner, work 3 sc in next corner, placing marker on center st. Work 135 sc along rem edge of blanket to corner, work 3 sc in corner, placing marker on center st. Join with sl to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch3 (counts as dc), *dc in each sc to marked st, 5 dc in marked st (corner), rep from * around. Join with sl st to top of beg ch3. Fasten off.
