PATTERNLESS PAINTING ROSEBUDS AND DAISIES
I've developed a nine step painting process of decorating any shaped object that you would like to turn from trash to treasure and use to decorate your home. In the example picture is a small wooden kleenex box cover, but I've used this process to decorate trays, table tops, heart-shaped garden signs, etc. I've used Delta Ceramcoat paint for this pattern how-to.
Step 1
After preparing your surface with the color of your choice (I used Peony Pink for the step-by-step, Black for the kleenex box) dip a damp sponge into Eucalyptus Green and lightly pounce off the excess on your palette. Sponge this light green foliage around the perimeter of your surface, or follow your item shape, approximately one inch from the edge and approximately 2 to 3 inches wide depending on your surface size. Keep the sponging fairly even but lacey at the edges.
Step 2
Load your script liner with thinned down Forest Green and paint a gently wavy vine through the center of the sponged foliage area.
Step 3
The largest leaves are double-loaded stroke work leaves placed along the vine in the 'hollows' of the vine using Forest Green and Apple Green double-loaded on your #10 flat brush. The light colour is up.
Step 4
The smaller one-stroke leaves are done using the same colors as step 3 and are placed along the vine between the largest leaves. They can be placed singly or in clusters of three, light edges up. Paint whatever fits comfortably on your piece.
Step 5
Rosebuds are placed along the vine, fairly evenly spaced, but angling first one way then the other so they are more natural looking, using Dusty Mauve and Peony Pink double-loaded on your #10 flat.
Step 6
Double load your script liner with Raw Sienna and Straw and 'brush-print' the daisy centers along the vine between the rosebuds. Place the centers with the Straw color up or oriented the same way as the light edges on the leaves or rosebuds. Angle the centers slightly differently with each one so they don't 'line up' along the vine.
Step 7
Using Light Ivory loaded on the script liner, paint straight comma stroke petals around the daisy centers, varying the size and length of each petal slightly, but have the longest ones coming in from each side. The short squat strokes in front of the centers are brush-prints and make the daisy appear to be tilted. Apply a few highlight dots along tops of centers using Custard and your liner.
Step 8
Re-load your script liner with thinned Forest Green and paint all stems attaching flowers to the vine, center veins on leaves, scrolls and rose leaves at base of each rosebud.
Step 9
Finally, add filler 3-dot flowers using your stylus and colors of your choice. I used Lavender Lace with Straw centers.
Step 10
