Modern Ripple Baby Blanket (Free Crochet Pattern)

This free Modern Ripple Baby Blanket pattern is courtesy of Lion Brand Yarn.

Skill level: Easy

  • 1 ball 550-100 Pound of Love Yarn: White
  • 1 ball 601-610 Bonbons Yarn: Brights
  • Lion Brand Crochet Hook - Size J-10 (6 mm)
  • Lion Brand Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)

Step 1

Gauge:

2 ripples = 4 in. (10 cm) measured from peak to peak.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Step 2

Notes:

  • This project is worked in a ripple crochet pattern. The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it's important to remember that you may need to work several rows before the ripple pattern becomes clear.

  • The ripple pattern consists of alternating peaks (3-sc) and valleys (sk 2 sts). Take care to keep the peaks and valleys of each row aligned. 3 sc are worked into the center sc of peaks and 2 sts are skipped over valleys of the previous row.

  • When working in ripple crochet, your piece may not lay flat until you've worked a few rows.

  • To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st. Fasten off old color. Proceed with new color.
