Book Page Starburst Wall Art

Do you enjoy old book crafts? This book page wall art project requires paper pages, taken from a discarded book, which are turned into paper rolls. The rolls can be made from any type of paper page including children's books, novels, colorful manga or comic books. The wooden circles are embroidery hoops which are available in craft and fabric stores. The outer hoop is 14in diameter and the inner hoop is 6.

Step 1

CREATE THE ROLLS:

Begin by removing pages from a discarded book. Use a rolling tool approximately 1/4in diameter such as a paint brush handle, chopstick or thin metal rod. Begin rolling at one corner and roll the page tightly around the rolling tool. Stop rolling about 2 from the opposite corner and apply adhesive to this corner. Finish rolling and allow the glue to set for a few seconds before releasing.

Step 2

PREPARE THE EMBROIDERY HOOPS:

Temporarily attach the two wooden embroidery hoops directly to the work surface by placing a spot of glue on both the hoops and work surface at the 12, 9, 6 & 3 o'clock points. The hoops will be removed from the work surface once the starburst frame is completed. However, this initial step keeps both hoops secured at an equal distance from each other while the paper rolls are being attached.

Step 3

ATTACH THE ROLLS TO THE HOOPS:

Using clear glue, attach the paper rolls to the wooden hoops. Clear glue in an applicator tube works well for this step. Begin by gluing the first roll to both the inner and outer hoops so that the roll extends beyond the outer hoop. Continue attaching the rolls one at a time all the way around the hoop.

Tip: dry fit the last dozen rolls to be sure the spacing allows for the last roll to fit snugly next to the first roll.
