BEADED HARDWARE: DIY STATEMENT NECKLACE
The copper couplings used in this necklace come from the plumbing section of the hardware store. They come in a range of sizes and put a fun spin on repurposed jewelry-making. They’re similar in color to on-trend rose gold, but easier to find and without the designer price tag. With a subtly industrial touch, you can surprise all the friends asking where you got your unique necklace when you explain that some of the beads are actually from the hardware store! In this project, you’ll learn how easy it is to make a necklace with cord. Add a fun combination of beads, knot in place, and you’re on your way!
Materials

Step 1
Tie a knot in the cord about 10 inches from one end. Slide the first round bead onto the long end of the cord.
Step 2
String on the copper couplings, alternating them with beads.
Step 3
Once you’ve added enough beads, tie a second knot in the cord to secure them in place.
Step 4
Trim the cord so the ends are even lengths. To wear, simply tie the cord in a knot behind your neck.
Helpful Hints: Because copper oxidizes over time, store this necklace in a zip-top bag to reduce tarnishing. You can also try a homemade cleaner using lemon juice and salt to keep the copper bright!
