(23 cm) circumference above lower rib; 8½(22 cm) long with cuff folded down (unstretched)
**Yarn**: Worsted weight yarn: approx 250 yds/228 m
**Needles**: 16
(40.5 cm) circular needle size 5 mm/
U.S. 8
Other Materials: Stitch marker, tapestry needle
Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st
Step 1
Special Abbreviation: m1—make 1: Make backwards loop over right thumb and place on right needle. Knit into this stitch on next round. (1 stitch increased)
DIRECTIONS: Note: Boot toppers are worked in the round from lower ribbing to upper cuff.
Step 2
DIRECTIONS: Note: Boot toppers are worked in the round from lower ribbing to upper cuff. Boot Topper (make 2) Cast on 40 sts. Join in the rnd, being careful not to twist. Pm to denote beg of rnds. Rnds 1–12: *K2, p2, rep from * around. Rnds 13–24: K. Rnd 25 (inc rnd): *K4, m1, rep from * around. (50 sts) Rnds 26–38: K. Rnd 39 (inc rnd): *K5, m1, rep from * around. (60 sts) Rnds 40–45: K. Rnds 46–58: *K2, p2, rep from * around. Rnd 59: K.
Step 3
BASKETWEAVE CUFF Rnds 60–62: *K3, p3, rep from * around. Rnds 63–65: *P3, k3, rep from * around. Rnds 66–71: Rep Rnds 60–65. Bind off loosely. Weave in ends. To wear, slip topper over leg. Fold cuff down over top of boot.
