Summer’s here, and there’s no better way to enjoy the warm weather than to host a beach party! Whether it’s lounging on the sand and soaking up some rays, or having a beach-themed get-together at the park, you’re guaranteed to have a memorable time with the family. Here are a few of my favorite tips for having fun under the sun this summer.

Choose Your Destination

Let’s get one thing straight — your beach party does not have to be at the beach! With the right supplies, you can host a beach-themed bash just about anywhere. Once you’ve chosen a venue for your party, consider the logistics: Is it close to home? Is there parking nearby? Are there available amenities (such as tables or benches), access to restrooms, and space to set up your picnic spread and for your kids to play? Figuring out what’s accessible to you and what you’ll need to bring are vital for your planning.

Bring the Necessities

With summer in full swing, my kids are always up for trips to the beach. We live across the street from a lake, so I keep our beach gear prepped and ready to go. I have a bag on hand with their swimwear, sunscreen and bug spray — click here to learn how to make your own seahorse beach tote bag! Don’t forget to bring other necessities, such as a cooler, beach toys, trash bags, a spare set of clothes and a beach umbrella.

Have Fun with Refreshments

Prepare light meals such as summer salads and finger foods. Click here for some of my favorite healthy and refreshing summer recipes.

Make sure you have cold drinks on hand to help beat the heat — this root beer float station is a great idea! Scoops of vanilla ice cream are placed in individual mason jars and then stored in a galvanized steel tub full of ice with bottles of chilled root beer — easy to transport and easy to serve.

Be Creative with Your Décor

If you’re at the beach, your natural surroundings are the only décor you need. But if you’re at a pool, park or even in the backyard, bring in a beachy theme with shells, sea glass, driftwood and other seaworthy items. This beach garland is fun to make with rope, twine, hot glue and shells. It’s a gorgeous accent that also serves to showcase the shells your family has collected.

Create Mood Lighting

Repurpose your holiday lights and make a star garland for when evening sets in. It's easy to make using white craft foam, globe string lights (use the battery-operated kind if you're too far from an electrical outlet), spray paint and a few other materials. The end result? Charming lighting that gives off a soft and welcoming glow.
