It's February 3rd, National Bubble Gum Day. To properly celebrate the timeless pink childhood everlasting snack, we'd love to introduce you to Maurizio Savini. He's an Italian sculptor internationally known for his giant chewing gum pieces, pun-fully intended.
Does he actually chew the gum? Yes. In fact, it's part of the experience.

"The synthetic fleshliness of the pink color, the obsessive square shape of the product unwrapped and ready to be shred to pieces by the power of the tongue, all compete in crashing on the senses," Maurizio says. "Applying all this to the power and energy of the sculpture and its history causes a short circuit that has the capacity of turning the ludic into stately and vice versa."

After spending relentless hours molding the sculptures, he then permanently fixes the pieces with formaldehyde and antibiotics. Thousands of 25-cent gum strips become transformed into $60,000 pieces of gum art.
